As newbies to the custom home building process, we were sometimes scattered with regards to our likes and dislikes from a design perspective. Yasmin was able to listen and make sense of everything to create an inviting and cohesive space. By incorporating different textures (metal walls, different types of wood, stone, woven rugs,…) and reusing the wood salvaged from our barns in the interior design (which was very important to me), Yasmin was able to bring to life our version of modern farmhouse. “I chose Yasmin Zeitler from among six interior decorators referred to me based on reading her website. I liked the description of her diverse background and I could see her creativity however, I was drawn mostly to her unique approach to working with clients. Her concept of helping clients find a vision they may not have been able to define themselves was exactly the practical help we needed! With busy careers, my husband and I had not coordinated a united vision. Though I often know what I like, finding the right pieces and putting them together was my challenge. Yasmin impressed me as a talented decorator who would work with us “one on one” to navigate the world of options. I made the perfect choice!
Having only met over the phone, we arranged for our first in- person meeting at a furniture store in Toronto and away we went exploring many shops with my CAD drawings, tile samples and clippings in hand. I was starting from scratch and felt overwhelmed! Yasmin was confident and just kept me going. She had a keen eye for unique understated pieces and complimentary colours. Before long, I felt we were a partnership exploring options and setting the plan to complete each area of the home. If I did not jump at an idea that she thought could be good, she would sometimes invite me to revisit it later in light of other choices made and suddenly I could see what was already in her vision. Yasmin has insight and she does not push. She just waits until you are ready. Her true talent for working with people was demonstrated again when we brought my husband into the conversation!
Being a part of the evolution was important to me. My husband wanted to see a result that appealed to him. Yasmin was able to work with both personality types. She did not come with pre-conceived agenda. She developed a custom look for us as she came to know us. She knew the best shops to find what we needed. Her great relationship with interior designers in furniture shops also benefited us. Clearly, she is respected within the industry!
Yasmin has helped us select furnishings for our entire home. She came to Ottawa to oversee the delivery and furniture placement. She selected a perfect window treatment for a unique purpose. She had pillows made and continues to scout other enhancements. She contacts me to get me refocused on our goals. It is a comfort to know she is there and we can pick up where we left off. What originally felt so overwhelming has turned into a fond memory of the journey with Yasmin to decorate our home and that gives me joy as I see what we created everyday.”
